ZM 6

APPLICATION

ZM 6 is a highly effective inoculant with zircon as the inoculating element. The de- oxidizing effect of zircon is increased by manganese, which lowers the melting point of the alloy, thus improving the dissolution behavior of the inoculant. Thanks to the improved solubility characteristics, this inoculating alloy is also suitable for low melting temperatures. The inoculation alloy ZM 6 is used for cast iron with la- mellar graphite and for cast iron with nodular graphite.

REFERENCE ANALYSIS

% Si 62 – 69
% Zr 2,9 – 4,5
% Mn 2,0 – 4,5
% Al 0,5 – 1,3
% Ca 0,6 – 1,9
% Fe residual

ADDITION RATE

The amount added is approx. 0.3 – 0.5% and is oriented to the desired nucleation state of the molten metal and the casting to be cast.

SIZING

  • 0,2 – 0,7 mm* (in-stream inoculation)
  • 0,6 – 2 mm (ladle inoculation)
  • 2 – 6 mm (ladle inoculation)

* In this grain size the Si content is somewhat below the value indicated above.
